How much is the scholarship?
Each award is $1,000. Two awards are planned annually, subject to the scholarship’s selection process and available funding.
When does the scholarship begin?
The first scholarship cycle is planned for 2027. The program covers ten annual cycles, from 2027 through 2036. Application and award dates will be published when established.
Is it only for four-year universities?
No. Eligible programs include colleges, universities, community colleges, vocational, technical and trade schools, accredited certificate programs, and other approved postsecondary institutions.
Is there a GPA requirement?
The policy sets a minimum GPA of 3.0 where applicable. A student is not automatically disqualified because of significant hardship when the Scholarship Committee determines that the overall application demonstrates the ability and commitment to continue their education.
Do I need a connection to a particular church?
The policy lists Church of Christ Genessee Avenue, Watkins Road Church of Christ, and Mound Street Church of Christ in Columbus, Ohio. The application records your membership or dependent relationship for the Scholarship Committee’s eligibility review.
Is financial need scored?
No. Financial need is not a scored selection criterion. Do not submit Social Security numbers, bank details, medical records, or unnecessary sensitive information.
What should I prepare?
One recommendation and an essay of 500–750 words, together with your contact information, education plans, church connection, service, and leadership information. The application will identify any additional documents required for its cycle.
Who selects the recipients?
The Scholarship Committee reviews applicants using the established criteria, documents its recommendation, and records any conflicts and recusals. Final approval rests with the Church Board/Trustees.
How are funds paid?
The church gives funds directly to recipients for school-related needs after the required documentation is completed. Proof of acceptance or enrollment may be required before funds are released.
